To Make A Man

written by Daniel Piper

There’s a calling in the deep,

To make a man whole and complete.

The call burns within the innermost heart;

In the roaring fire is where the journey starts.

Deeper pain brings a higher calling.

A sharp sword is made through mighty suffering.

At the cross mankind finds God worthy;

Spilled blood is the doorway to becoming holy.

Life is a calling to death,

So Christ in me can resurrect.

Don’t avoid the suffering and escape the pain;

Hanging to die was Heaven’s eternal gain.

From ashes to life and darkness to light,

I am called out to join my Creator’s fight.

Even angels had to choose a side.

God’s pursuing love has destroyed my pride.

My Creator fought to win over my soul;

In dying to self, Christ becomes my hole.

There’s a calling in the deep,

To make a man whole and complete.

The Spirit needs room,

To clear out the tomb.

So here Lord, take my heart,

And fashion me into your holy part.

Always wanting me from the beginning,

You made me in the song of your words:

Dancing and singing.

Having your eye on me through all of life’s trials,

You used the raging storm to bring me into your loving smile.

And you whispered words,

When I was ready to hear:

“My child, I am the storm, bringing you in,

From afar to near.”

So as the waves may violently toss;

I will have no fear.

It’s my God chasing after me;

In His overwhelming love,

I always persevere.

There’s a calling in the deep,

To make a man whole and complete.

“I will go before you and make the crooked places straight;

I will break in pieces the gates of bronze and cut the bars of iron.

I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places,

That you may know that I, the LORD, who call you by your name, am the God of Israel.

For Jacob My servant’s sake, and Israel my elect, I have even called you by name;

I have named you, though you have not known Me.

I am the LORD, and there is no other; there is no God besides Me.

I will gird you, though you have not known Me.

That you may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that there is none beside Me.

I am the LORD, and there is no other;

I form the light and create darkness,

I make peace and create calamity;

I, the LORD, do all these things.

Rain down, you heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness;

Let the earth open, let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together.

I, the LORD, have created it.”
