Lust is a flame, a fire, that is never quenched or satisfied.
The fire craves to be fed more and more while scorching and burning everything it touches.
The flame destroys a man’s eyes, his mind, neural pathways, his perception of women, relationships, marriage, his time, energy and focus.
Lust is a beast that just wants to dominate and destroy a man’s entire life. His very soul.
So how does a man overcome lust?
He cannot strike the match and light the fire.
He must walk in the light as Christ is in the light (1 John 1:7).
He must surrender and allow the real, true fire of the Lord to test, train, correct and renew his thinking – his whole way of life (Hebrews 12:29, Deut 4:24).
To surrender to the monstrous fire of lust: the man must surrender to Christ and allow God to create a new heart inside of him (Psalm 51:10).
A man has no power over an enemy this cunning and crafty.
The aroma of lust may entice with pleasure, but it only seeks to put him into chains and bondage – leaving his soul ashamed, alone, afraid and captivated in fear.
His soul feels so helpless and afraid when chained inside of darkness.
It’s hard to see the light when all around are shadows of deceit and lies.
The fire of lust thrives in the darkness.
Lies, secrecy, and deception are the fuel that keep the fire raging and destroying everything around him.
You have to be a firefighter to put out lust by clinging to the wellspring of Christ, firmly rooted in truth, studying the Word of God and looking forward to the hope and grace of walking clean with Christ and loved ones are the only means of putting out the fire.
The disclosure of all the truth releases the chains around a man’s soul. “For the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).
And the love of Christ removes the bondage and shame; keeping him from going back to the deceit and lies of the darkness. “For nothing in all of creation will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:39); For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ.. (Romans 1:6)”.
So how a man overcomes lust is by stepping into the light and allowing the love of Christ to pierce every wound, fear and lack of belief in his heart and mind.
Oh Lord, may truth and love reign inside all of my heart so I never re-ignite the matchstick of lust and burn away all good things that you created.
