Every Day is Christmas

Written by Daniel Piper

Every day is Christmas. For God gives you a beating heart.

While you run and play, do you tell it to: “Beat, beat, beat and thump, thump, thump?”

No you do not. It just beats faster than a ticking clock.

It’s a gift from God to have a beating heart.

Every day is Christmas. For God gives you air to breathe.

No matter where you go, His air chases you all around.

From high in the sky, down to the lowly ground.

God’s oxygen is all around.

It’s a gift from God to have air to breathe.

Every day is Christmas when God gives you water.

Did you know clouds are water drops floating in the sky?

God never wants you to be thirsty or dry.

That’s why he makes water pour down like rain.

Daily living water is a gift God loves to bring.

Every day is Christmas. For God gives you light.

Did you know everything on Earth needs light to grow.

Without light, there would be no food in the grocery store!

And chickens would lay no eggs.

That means no cookies, cakes and much more!

It’s a gift from God to have light.

Every day is Christmas when God gives you shelter.

Can you believe birds have to sleep in wind and rain?

Imagine dolphins and whales trying to sleep during a hurricane!

If you have protection and shelter in stormy weather, that is a gift from God.

Every day is Christmas when God gives you eyes to see.

Did you know some people are blind and have no vision?

They may never see a rainbow or the deep blue ocean.

Try this!

Close your eyes for five seconds.

Start now…

Tah dah! There’s your gift!

It’s a gift from God to have eyes to see.

Every day is Christmas when God gives you two ears to listen.

Did you know many children are born deaf?

That means they can’t hear the sound of mommy calling.

Or they can’t hear the music in the car bumping.

Try this!

Plug both your ears with your fingers for five seconds.

Start now…

Ding, ding, ding! There’s your gift!

It’s a gift from God to have ears to listen.

Every day is Christmas. For God gives you fingers.

Do you want to play a game?

Clinch both hands tight in a fist.

Now try and flip this next page…

Start now…

If you were able to flip that page, I am super impressed!

It’s a gift from God to have fingers.

Every day is Christmas. For God gives you feet.

Time for another game!

Sit down on the floor.

Now try and jump up and down with your butt…

Without feet it’s hard to get up off the ground!

It’s a gift from God to have feet.

So next time you run and play with a friend, stop and think how God’s gifts never end.

Imagine yourself with no hands and feet.

What would you do for play time all week?

When you hear birds chirping in the air.

Stop and think about how much God really cares.

A roof over your head is better than rain drops splashing in your bed.

When you see beautiful rainbows or the deep blue ocean.

Remember that God’s gifts are always in motion!

You can see and hear these gifts all around.

Just take the time to appreciate each one.

Maybe even write them down.

You will be amazed at how many gifts God hands out to you and me.

I bet you couldn’t even fit them under a Christmas tree!
