I believe the Word of God is the very air we breathe. God literally spoke all of life into existence (Genesis 1). So the oxygen we breathe is sourced from the mouth of God when the Divine speaks life into creation. God’s Word is everything. The Word is God. Thus, the Word is the source that provides life. Oxygen is the bedrock of life. It is even within water (H2O). Could the oxygen we breathe (and drink) have come from the very mouth of God?
Think I’m crazy? Read these Bible verses:
“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God’” – Matthew 4:4 ESV
“Take to heart all the words by which I am warning you today, that you may command them to your children, that they may be careful to do all the words of this law. For it is no empty word for you, but your very life…” – Deuteronomy 32:46-47 ESV
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He (the Word) was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him (the Word) was life…” – John 1:1-3 ESV
“In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind” – Job 12:10 ESV
Job makes it clear. All of life is in the palm of God’s hand. Why is that? It is so the Lord God can breathe the Word of Life into the souls of men every day. We have to hear and breathe in God’s word all the time to be living souls.
Picture this: The Heavenly Father gently holds all of life in the palms of His hands. We’re closely held before the face of God with His very lips providing the breath in His Word for everyday life. The Heavenly Father is diligently keeping every living creature alive by His own breath.
The question is: Do we crave the Word of God like oxygen? Anything less is not genuine worship of the Divine Creator of your soul. You and I wouldn’t be alive if it weren’t for God’s Word… Think about that… What is your response to God’s Word now?
